Groundbreaking
SCEF Leadership Development Center
SCEF is breaking ground on Auntie Shirley’s Home, a center for young women on the property of the Chisholm family home in Barbados. The home was once used for the family bakery business. Shirley Chisholm’s father was an assistant baker in Brooklyn, New York. He inspired Shirley’s brother to open a bakery in Barbados, one of the country’s first. SCEF will continue this legacy of economic progress with Auntie Shirley’s Home. The center will include a bakery, which will generate revenue for the organization to provide microloans for women in the center’s community.
